Healthy starts are the foundation for strong, thriving communities. Join with us to make sure healthy starts here.
We’re here to help immigrant and refugee families take the first step toward better health:
- Access free or affordable healthcare services.
- Find support for mental and family wellness.
- Connect with programs that empower and uplift.
Because when all of our neighbors are healthy, our community grows stronger.
“FaithAction has helped my family see brighter days, and now I’m proud to give back as a volunteer and future community health worker. I first heard about FaithAction 22 years ago, and after attending their workshops, events, and services, I knew I wanted to help others the same way they helped me.”—Dolores, FaithAction Volunteeer
Meet our congregational nurse Araceli and hear her story as well as why FaithAction is so important in making Healthy Starts for our newest neighbors.

Araceli: Hello everyone. My name is Araceli. I am the nurse here at Faith Action. I am with the Community and Congregational Nurse Program, and I have my UNCG student with me today, which he will introduce himself.
Aidn: Hi everyone. I’m Aidn Patterson. I’m one of the nursing students that gets the opportunity to serve and help that faith action.
Araceli: I have been working with Faith Action now for a few years. One of the things that I would say I can relate to with having an organization like this is my parents and myself being immigrants to this country. My family members did not have this type of organization, which provides that safe space to come and get resources, get donations, like grants and food.
Araceli: I believe that the Healthy Start is important for our immigrants and refugee families because they need access to healthcare. They need help navigating the healthcare system with things such as like finding a doctor and possibly even getting assistance with getting their medications that they’re currently on. Some of these families have chronic health issues that were not able to be followed up with or have any treatment from where they’re coming from. Coming here is their first step towards having better health.
Aidn: We really are instrumental in this community in trying to help setting a baseline for people to be able to reach the healthcare that they need. Every person’s healthcare needs are different and Faith Action provides resources that can fulfill those needs.
Araceli: Some of the challenges that our community members face to be in good health would be language, lack of transportation, being able to navigate the healthcare system, the differences in which and how they are here compared to their home country, and affordability of health insurance.
Aidn: Here at Faith Action, we really want to help you address those issues, especially with things like affordability, help getting you set up with services that can help afford healthcare access as well as coordinate with transportation or whatever services you may need.
Aidn: In my short time at Faith Action here, I’ve recognized how important Faith Action is to addressing a lot of the disparities we have in our community and helping people really get connected to the resources they need. Faith Action is really, really important in raising awareness to getting people the services that they need in terms of like, Medicaid, Orange Card, whatever you need to be able to afford your medications and coordinating those resources together. Faith Action helps the community become aware of these issues and these gaps, as well as what stigmas face these certain populations that we serve here. So Faith Action is really great opportunity for volunteer work and making sure that the community is actively engaged.
Araceli and Aida: Healthy starts here. It starts with all of us.
