THE SIXTH MULTI-AGENCY UNITY WALK AND FESTIVAL DRAWS OVER 300 PEOPLE, MULTI-CULTURAL PERFORMERS AND INTERNATIONAL VENDORS FOR A BUZZING SUMMER AFTERNOON; WHILE ADVOCATING FOR IMMIGRATION RIGHTS AND REFORM
One of the biggest multicultural festivals started by FaithAction, the multi-national, multi-cultural Unity Walk and Festival was a huge success this year. As an annual reminder to our community that there are still things that need to be accomplished to fully have an inclusive and welcoming community for immigrants, the event started with interfaith prayers and a walk around a designated route in downtown.
Our Advocacy campaign consisted of presentations to the youth through Advocacy 101, the history and purpose of the Unity Walk, awareness of immigrant/refugee challenges, language justice, drivers license for all, tuition fairness, and the need for humane immigration reform. All the posters were made by the youth, who reminded the community of the importance of immigration reform, with hopes of creating pathways to limited status and undocumented families to adjust their immigration status in the US.
All community members are welcomed to walk alongside agencies like FaithAction, CWS, New Arrivals Institute, NC African Services Coalition, Reading Connection, Cone Health Foundation, Greensboro International Advisory Committee, UNCG’s Centre for New North Carolinians and other participating agencies to amplify the message of immigration reform. This year, we had immigrant and refugee small businesses.
